Garmin GPS Setup Help

Post  Admin on Fri Dec 23, 2011 12:13 pm

Here are some of the setting that I have found to work best when using the Garmin Mapping GPSr's for Trail Riding. If you see something that I have missed then please chime in. The Garmin Manuals leave alot to be desired as far as information so alot of this information was acquired thru trial and error.

These Setting can be found in MAIN MENU, SETUP, MAP

You can change the Default Page Sequence. Many have found that only these three pages are needed when navigating on the trails. You can see how this works on your GPSr now. From the Map Screen press Quit. The Screen changes. Everytime you press Quit the until moves to the next page. You will see that several pages are not really needed when on the trails.

WAAS needs to be disabled when the unit is not in a WAAS radiation field. Enabled slows the unit somewhat and decreases the accuracy when not in range of WAAS, i.e., all of E TN that ATVers might use.

I have my unit hard-wired to ATV switch. With External Power set to Stay On, the batteries keep the unit ready while the ATV is stopped.

I've playing around with the Below setting which causes the unit to display North Up when zoomed Out at the setting or greater. When zoomed in it is Track Up, when out, North Up.
